Debbie Dowdle lives in Alexander City, Alabama with her husband Walter.  She graduated from Auburn University in 1971 with a degree in Pharmacy.   After retiring in 1998, she developed an interest in oil painting.

Having no formal education in art, Debbie began her journey in painting with Lilian Nublat, a French impressionist. Immediately she fell in love with the thick texture and the juicy look of impressionistic painting.  She enjoys the freedom of the loose brushstrokes and the excitement of the bold color.    In 2001, Debbie began traveling and enjoying workshops as often as possible.   Other accomplished artists that she has studied with are Guido Frick, Diane McClary, Louise DeMore, JoAnn Williams Walker, Debbie High, Roger Dale Brown, Kim English, Dee Beard Dean and Qiang Huang.

Debbie feels that painting has taught her to see the world in a new way and she expresses that with the use of light and color.   She enjoys all subjects and always willing to grow from a new challenge.  She lives on  beautiful Lake Martin and travels frequently photographing for her landscapes. Orange Beach provides her with the study for her favorite boat paintings.
